Pripyat is an abandoned city in northern Ukraine, founded in 1970 as a model home for workers of the nearby Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant.

• The Disaster: On April 26, 1986, Reactor Number 4 at the Chernobyl plant exploded, releasing massive amounts of radiation into the atmosphere.
• The Evacuation: Authorities evacuated nearly 50,000 residents on April 27, telling them they would return in three days. High radiation made the move permanent.
• The Ghost Town: Today, Pripyat remains an empty time capsule inside the 30-kilometer Exclusion Zone, where concrete blocks and an unopened amusement park are slowly swallowed by forests.
